Weird Wednesday

I like the weird - the odd - the "omg what were you thinking?" But even I find myself to have some limits..

I love crochet designs from back in the day - old things become new but I find this a bit much and don't think I would want to revamp this - its like yarn bombing a person?

I like the shirt... but the pants? Perhaps in a simple solid color!

Every time I see this picture... I giggle a little because I know 30+ years ago - this was totally in.. right?

And then there is this.. I love people and their creativity. I love color and self-expression - but I cannot wrap my mind around this one... I am trying... its not working..

And I have certainly crochet some weird things in my 20+ years like this weird ninja turtle hat my son was bugging me for .. yea no pictures :)

this is it for today's Weird Wednesday episode
now back to your regular program!

Monday Agenda

Monday is the day I look at my calendar and see all that I have going on - well actually I look at my calendar   daily but Monday helps me formulate a plan of action.

I have several client meetings this week.
I have to finish cleaning out the store (this should happen today)
I have plans to crochet and maybe even wood burn (feeling the need to)
I need to write blog posts for this week
I need to find time to perhaps get to the new house - and work inside while the guys work on the outside.
I have to entertain my 9 year old and keep the 14 year old busy too.

But none of this will happen if I don't have this:

I hope everyone has a great week - lots of coffee and lots of chocolate ;)

Dinner Date - Shish Kebab

During the warmer months in can be difficult to find something appealing to eat in the heat. It's summer time - lets roll out the grill (but can be done on the stove too)

Cut 1 pound beef top sirloin, 1 medium onion and 1 green pepper into 1-inch cubes. You can add other vegetables if you like such as red pepper, yellow pepper, zucchini. Not into the beef use prawns or chicken!

Combine 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/3 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup brown sugar in a baking dish. Add beef and marinate at least 1 hour.

Preheat grill to medium hot. Thread sirloin, peppers and onions onto skewers.
Reserve marinade to baste over kebabs while cooking. This gives veggies extra flavor and keeps meat from becoming dry.

Serve over bed of hot rice.

On being an interior designer ...

The fun part about "The House" is that we can design the color scheme however we would like. There's no worries about the lack of ability to paint.. ha.. and I am hoping to have LOTS of fun with this process.

I've been spending a lot of time on Pinterest and other search engines looking for inspiration - although the living room has already been decided.. it will have white walls.

Say what?

Yes - I have several painted colored canvas that will hang in the living room - which will give color to the space. Eventually Mr. Handyman will use his artistic skills and create a Metal Tree that kind of resembles this:

My favorite part of the room is going to be the reading room.. and I am investing a lot of thought in that.. I want it to be fun and colorful. I am thinking a blue tone well more like teal or aqua as you can see in the pic with orange accents.. hmmm

The wall in that area is very tall.. tall that we are envisioning books going all the way to the top - you will need a ladder to get to them :) I am thinking about using crates for shelves... but then I saw this:
And this is pretty darn cool too ....hmmm we'll have to give this some thought!

The Master Bedroom will have the following color scheme:
Blue-Gray walls with blue bedding..

Little mans room will have a few comic characters hanging around - or maybe even Star Wars Themed.. or maybe we'll combine the two themes... or maybe we just make it a Lego Themed room
I hope to be able to combine his favorite things... but I also want to add a Chalk Wall and a Cork Board Wall in a section of his room! I think this will help in hanging his pictures.. and he can be creative :)

The Kitchen will be in a tone of yellow - and if I can get the cabinets to be white.. then for now I can live with that. Since we will be expanding on the kitchen I am not too concerned with it right now - but I am scoping out future possibilities!

The loft - adolescent hangout I believe will be in a shade of purple.. but a dark purple. And last but not least an addition to give the other adolescent a space of her own - though the color scheme still hasn't been presented!

In the mean time the two boys may have to bunk together while adolescent girl is hanging about!

Oh and one of the things I have not mentioned? We have two full size bathrooms right next to each other. One belonging to the Master Bathroom. My vision however is to take those two bathrooms and make it one gigantic bathroom with garden tub, standing shower - double sinks.. ahh yea definitely a future project!

The house from the inside

This is the view from the front door... yea yea I know not much.. but we have a vision.. haha.. we are finishing off the beam... white walls ..and at some point a fake metal tree will be on the wall to the right!
Paintings will hang from the top... the woodstove chimney will go away!!

To the left of the living room... ahh yes wood stove.. not quite a fire place.. but definitely one heck of a way to keep your house warm.. and so pretty too!!!

The loft - which will be the adolescent hangout for my 14 year old son. He's envisioning a purple theme.. I just have to find something that matches the library theme!

The library - as you can see my 8 year old is showing off.. he helped clean out all the carpets and trash.. he did an amazing job!!

This is the space we are envisioning books up to the ceiling.. and yep the ceiling's pretty high up!

Color? Perhaps a blue tone... of sort

My itty bitty office area right under the stairs.. leaving the wood natural if I can help it.. but for sure it will be a cute space to work from!
One of the bedrooms.. this is actually the Master Bedroom but we are handing it off to the little guy just because its at the back of the house.. and not in the front :)
Note: Makes sure windows are secure.. :)
And here's where the Marvel Comic folks will take shape.. seeing Spiderman and his friends "hanging out" with a dark blue background!

The other bedroom for the grown ups!
Another purple theme... maybe.
I love purple favorite color ever.. but I am staying open minded in the color scheme of things :)

I purposely left out the kitchen... its still a horrific mess that I refuse to go into. But once its cleared out before the paint etc I will take a picture for ya.. so you get the feel of before and after!

Our new project

This is "The House"
It doesn't look like much.. it needs some work!

The great thing?

Mostly cosmetic minus a rotten board here and there.
 The not so great thing?

We literally have to clean it out before we can do anything with it. The previous tenant had all of his belongings - while trashed - still in there...

So today was spend throwing it out, burning what we could... this was at the beginning... the pile got bigger!

The stairs that will be replaced... this home is getting a wrap around deck... ahh yes.. deck parties ya'll!!! Eventually we are envisioning a pool especially since my youngest for health reason can't enjoy lakes, rivers and oceans!

The back of the house... where we will add an addition to have 2 more rooms and extend the tiny tiny kitchen that's there now.. porch will be gone.. and the doors..we don't know yet!

This is where my new deck will go... but much prettier.. the guys already ripped it up today checking out the boards and such!

This is the great thing about having a handyman in your life!

The deck will be one of the first things that us being added... I need steps to get into the house :)

Tomorrow stay tuned for pictures from the inside... and follow the transition from this.. to what we envision it to be!

Our own little homestead!

White Owl Designs - Featured Artist

I strongly believe in the innate power and romance of objecthood. Everything I create has love and intention painted into it.

Is that not the best way to describe and Artists love and passion for their craft?
Reading the Bio of White Owl Designs who began painting at the young age of 14 it helped define her own style - and what an amazing support system she must have had to help her flourish within her craft.

White Owl Designs specializes in "handmade beads, jewelry, and original art" and when you go visit her shop on Artfire you will truly find OOAK's and so much more. I am thoroughly impressed with the quill painting and enlightened to learn about this technique - though not my style I LOVE what she does.

Because it is exceptionally unique!

Don't these pictures just speak volume about the craftsman ship and the person behind them? I thought so too! So please take a looksy at her Artfire Shop because I think you too will fall in love with the work.. I am  already creating a shopping list for future designs :)

Pyrography - where it started

Years ago when I first stared Hippie's Creations I ventured into the art of Macrame. I haven't created macrame in some time but do have plans in the future to do so.. anyway... when I was cranking out one choker after the other I wanted to design my own beads.. wood beads to be exact and bought my first wood burner from Michaels, I think.

I was never able to draw well but I became fascinated with this new thing that I had never heard about before.. and I started to create wood burning pieces.. one of my first creations was this eagle

Considering that I didn't have much knowledge or practice.. I sold 3 that year.. then I did a portrait.. not my best work.. but it motivated me to improve .. and I think I succeeded

I received a few commissions over the years such as these

But one of my most favorite pieces I have ever done is this Falcon from a picture I took
I donated it to the Wildlife Center some time ago...

I am excited to work on a commission piece - I won't quite reveal quite yet what it is but it certainly has me inspired to "burn" more in the future..

To see more of my work you can go to my collection set on Flickr:
